1. Move your cars
Your installer will need unhindered access to your entire garage area. If your cars usually stay in your garage, move them onto the street or enough distance away for your installation technician to bring their vehicle as close to the garage as possible. This won’t just give them room to move – it will also prevent your vehicles being damaged.
2. Empty your garage space
bikes, or other items that might be an obstacle for your installer, and move them to the back of your garage. This gives your installer enough room to move, and also prevents your items being accidentally damaged during the job.
3. Keep kids and pets away
If you have a pet, make sure it’s kept away from the worksite. Having a pet wandering around can be hazardous for your installer and for your furry friend. If you have kids, it’s also important you keep them away from the workspace. Installing a garage door involves heavy items, powerful tools, overhead objects, sharp objects, and items under tension. Your installer is required to maintain a workspace that’s safe for themselves and your family.
4. Consider ideal locations
Planning where you’d like your opener, wall consoles or entry pads to go ahead of time will help the installation run smoothly. Openers need to be placed close to a powerpoint, or in an area that is accessible with an extension power cord. Wall consoles are usually fixed on your garage wall near the door entering the garage. Keyless entry pads for the exterior are usually placed near the door leading into your home, though their exact placement is really your choice. Once you decide where you’d like these features to go, it’s important you clear the wall and clean it so that your installer can carry out their work quickly.
